SelfShot

Amazon white-background product photos

Amazon listings often need a main product image on a white background. This page explains what SelfShot can do today, how white padding differs from cutting a product out of a photo, and a possible future Amazon Image Check that is not for sale yet.

What SelfShot does today

SelfShot is a free, browser-based photo tool. It resizes, formats, and compresses product photos, and it can pad them onto a white square. Photos are not uploaded for processing. Decoding, resizing, padding, compression, and export all run on your device.

Open the free photo tool to prep a batch now, or use the Amazon image size tool for the current Amazon preset.

White padding is not background removal

Padding adds white around the photo so the frame is the right size and the added pixels are pure white. It does not cut the product out of a table, wall, or other background. If the original photo is not already on white, the non-white area stays in the picture.

True cutout, sometimes called background removal, is not available in SelfShot today.

Common Amazon main-image requirements

Amazon Seller Central publishes image rules, and some categories have extra style guides. Rules can change. Confirm the current requirements in Amazon Seller Central before you list. SelfShot cannot guarantee Amazon approval.

Common Amazon main-image requirements, from public Amazon seller guidance, include:

  • A main image on a pure white background, described as RGB 255, 255, 255
  • The product filling a large share of the frame. About 85% is commonly cited. Some category style guides say about 80%.
  • Amazon prefers images larger than 1,000 pixels on each side for zoom
  • Amazon prefers JPEG

These are common requirements, not a complete or universal checklist. The current US Seller Central product image requirements page (help article G1881) requires a seller login, so we could not confirm that page verbatim. Category guides can add more rules, such as showing the actual product and avoiding extra text, logos, or watermarks on the main image.

SelfShot can help with size, format, compression, and white padding. It does not promise that Amazon will accept a listing.

Current Pro is not the future Amazon checker

The optional $9 lifetime Pro plan is unlimited cross-listing. It is not the future Amazon Image Check, and it does not include private background removal.

A possible future upgrade

We are measuring interest in Amazon Image Check plus private background removal. If it is built, it would check common image requirements in the browser. It still could not guarantee Amazon approval.

Expected founding price: $49/year. That figure is interest-test pricing only. Interest list only. No charge today.

Photos, email, and this form

When you prepare photos in the free tool, they stay on your device. They are not uploaded for processing. If you join the interest list, your email and form answers are sent to SelfShot. Do not attach photos to that form. The form does not accept them.

Join the interest list

Interest list only. No charge today. This would be a separate future upgrade and is not currently available.
