Resize images for eBay

eBay's picture policy requires at least one photo of 500 pixels on the longest side. The adding-pictures guide recommends aiming for 800 to 1600 pixels on the longest side. It does not say that zoom turns on at 1600. SelfShot's preset uses 1600 by 1600 because that is the top of the published range and stays sharp.

The photo uploader accepts files up to 7 MB. A photo copied from a web address can be up to 12 MB. SelfShot's hard cap is 12 MB and it aims much lower, so a normal export fits the uploader. JPG is the preset format. eBay also accepts PNG, GIF, TIFF, BMP, WEBP, HEIC, and AVIF.

Not in the picture policy or the adding-pictures guide reviewed for this preset. Some listing views are tighter than the original frame, so a product near the edge can still get cut off after you upload. Squaring the photo yourself, with padding, keeps the whole product in a 1:1 frame you chose.

If your original is wider or taller than square, SelfShot pads the short side rather than cropping, so the whole product stays in frame. That is a SelfShot choice, not an eBay rule.

eBay's photo tips suggest a plain white or neutral backdrop, and a black background for some shiny items. Pure white is not required. SelfShot defaults to padding to white rather than forcing a background change. This squares the photo and gives it a tidy white border. It does not cut the subject out.

If you prefer to keep a lifestyle or in-use background, you can. The point of the eBay preset is a sharp 1600 by 1600 file, not a promise that eBay will approve the listing.
